A Pakistani wedding can mean five or more events, each with its own outfit. Here is a simple plan to keep your wardrobe organised.
The events and what to wear
- Dholki: comfortable, colourful luxury pret, often a short shirt with gharara or palazzo.
- Mayun: traditional yellow or mustard, light and easy to move in.
- Mehndi: bright greens, oranges, pinks and multicolour embroidery; lehengas and flared kalidaars are popular.
- Nikkah: elegant ivory, pastels or gold; often a lighter bridal look.
- Barat: your heaviest, most traditional bridal outfit. See our Barat guide.
- Walima / Reception: soft and elegant, or modern and glamorous. See Walima vs Reception.
When to order
- 3 months before: order bridal outfits (6–8 weeks to make).
- 6–8 weeks before: order formals and pret for the other events (3–4 weeks to make).
- 2 weeks before: try everything on with your shoes and jewellery.
Tips
- Order all your outfits together so colours complement each other across events.
- Use custom sizing for every piece and keep a record of your measurements.
- Plan outfits for close family too, so photos look cohesive.
