Hand-embellished outfits are investment pieces. With the right care they will look beautiful for years and can even be passed down.

Cleaning

  • Dry clean only. Water, detergent and machine washing can damage zardozi, sequins and dyes.
  • Choose a dry cleaner experienced with embellished and bridal wear.
  • Spot-treat small marks gently with a clean, dry cloth; avoid rubbing embroidery.

Ironing

Iron on the reverse side on a low setting, with a thin cotton cloth between the iron and the fabric. Never iron directly over embellishment.

Storage

  • Fold heavily embellished pieces rather than hanging them, so the weight does not stretch the fabric.
  • Wrap in a breathable cotton or muslin cloth, never plastic, to prevent moisture build-up.
  • Place acid-free tissue between folds to protect embroidery.
  • Store away from direct sunlight and damp, and add silica gel sachets.

Between wears

Air the outfit after wearing, check for loose beads or threads, and refold along different lines every few months to prevent permanent creases.
