After the Barat, most brides wear two more statement looks: the Walima and, increasingly, a separate Reception. Here is how to make each one feel distinct.
The Walima look: soft, light and elegant
The Walima is hosted by the groom's family and traditionally calls for a softer, more serene look than the Barat. Popular colours include ivory, champagne, blush, powder blue, mint and silver. Fabrics are lighter, such as organza, net and chiffon over raw silk, and embroidery is often tonal, with pearls, crystals and resham rather than heavy gold.
Flowing kalidaars, peplums with lehengas and long gowns all work beautifully. Explore our Walima collection for inspiration.
The Reception look: modern and glamorous
A Reception is often an evening event and gives you room to experiment. Think jewel tones such as emerald, sapphire and deep plum, or contemporary silhouettes like capes, draped saris and front-open jackets. Shine is welcome here: sequins, cutdana and metallic threadwork look stunning under evening lights. See our Reception collection.
How to plan all three looks together
- Contrast the colours: if your Barat is red, choose a pastel Walima and a jewel-toned Reception.
- Vary the silhouettes: pair a lehenga Barat with a kalidaar Walima or a sari-style Reception.
- Balance the jewellery: heavy kundan for the Barat, delicate pearls or diamonds for the Walima.
